The semester is in its ramping up phase as we head into finals. I’m more terrified by how time has melted away than I am of the exams themselves. To be fair, as a music student most of my finals are projects which allow me to have fun and be creative. Still, I want to give some updates as to what I’m working on at present.
A lot of the music I make for classes I take are posted on my Bandcamp and over on the Compositions page. I’ve definitely improved in my technological and compositional capabilities in the past couple of years, and I like being able to hear my progress. I’ve still got a few new compositions to put up. Although, I did run into an interesting problem.
Some of my compositions written in SuperCollider are probabilistic and generative meaning a simple audio file wouldn’t quite capture the essence. Posting my code for anyone to use and download is also not something which I am keen to do. One potential solution is using this JavaScript library which allows for communication with the scsynth server from the webpage. I would just need to figure out how to get the communication between the client web page and the server working without exposing my code. This could be an interesting project for the future.
On the work side of things, I’ve been lots of varied tasks for my job as a research apprentice. I don’t want to describe anything too specific for privacy reasons.
As personal projects go, I’ve been working on my own music a bit more than usual and building out my ProTools skills. And Minecraft skills. I’m hoping to get a single released soon. I just need to record and mix it. Luckily, there’s a professional studio on campus I have access to. Lot’s of things to look forward to in the coming days.
